The WordPresss Metrics That Actually Move Growth

Dashboards are easy to fill and hard to focus. The goal is to track the handful of metrics that help you ship better content, fix friction, and convert more visitors. Here’s a pragmatic metrics set we set up for content‑led teams.

Start with outcomes
Define the few conversions that matter—demo requests, form fills, trial signups, or purchases. Align each article/page to a next step. If the next step is unclear, fix that first.

Your core measurement set
Sessions & returning visitors: are we earning repeat attention or leaking it?
Exit pages & exit rate: where journeys end unintentionally (especially checkout and key content).
Top Google search queries (Search Console): what people actually typed to find you; fuel this with more content and better on‑page alignment.
Most‑viewed pages & dwell time: double down on formats/topics that hold attention.
Conversion rate (CVR) by template (post, landing, product): optimize the patterns, not one‑offs.
Countries/devices: shape performance work (e.g., mobile speed for markets with older devices).
Referrals & outbound links: find partner opportunities and content gaps.

A monthly analytics ritual (90 minutes)

  1. Scan positions for 10–20 tracked queries. Re‑optimize top posts that are hovering in positions 4–10.

  2. Review exit pages: fix UX snags, slow pages, and mismatched intent.

  3. Identify winners (update + interlink) and underperformers (consolidate or refresh).

  4. Track a single experiment per month (new CTA, improved FAQ, or table for featured‑snippet eligibility).

  5. Ship one technical fix (image compression, lazy loading, schema validation).

Simple rules of thumb
• If a post ranks but doesn’t get clicks, the title/description is the suspect.
• If clicks are fine but no conversions, the CTA or offer is misaligned.
• If neither clicks nor rank exist, you likely targeted the wrong keyword or format.
